The first thing to determine is whether the Brittany Spaniel is going to make a good pet for the whole family. This breed thrives on human contact and needs a great deal of attention. Brittanys also have specific needs that have to be met. Thus, the breed needs a considerable amount of exercise. Bred to be used during hunting, these dogs have enormous energy resources waiting to be spared. The Brittany Spaniel is very active and is not the breed for people with preference for a quiet lazy life.

Grooming the Brittany Spaniel is not difficult. It is recommended to groom a dog once a week and occasionally trim it. Trimming is applied in areas around ears. It makes the dog's ears neater and keeps the coat in order. Brushing is instrumental in getting rid of dead or dirty hairs.

The Brittany Spaniel is not recommended for apartment dwellers. Its activity level is too great to be covered in an apartment. These dogs are best with a small yard. When walking a dog, do not worry about cold or damp weather. The Brittany Spaniel is generally healthy and cold resistant. The breed may suffer from hip dysplasia and seizures.
